Life imitated K-drama when Song Joong Ki, 32, and Song Hye Kyo, 35, tied the knot in a super hush-hush ceremony. The Wedding of the Decade (or some say, Century) between the Descendants of the Sun’s stars aimed to be as private and low-key as possible. In the lead-up to the Songs’ big day, deets were shrouded in secrecy. The couple’s agencies also released a statement on the four no-nos during the Songs’ wedding: No press con, no photography, no photo wall and no interviews. In fact, a ceiling tent had been originally set up to deter the media from taking photos. But after vehement protest from the local press, that plan was axed and the wedding saw the light of day, quite literally. Unlike other sponsored nuptials, the couple, who reportedly splashed S$70, 000 on the wedding, had also turned down all sponsorship offers. Only about 300 close friends and family members were invited to the intimate affair. Of course, the private and low-key event was anything but private and low-key.
Fans and the media pulled out all stops to get a glimpse of the alfresco wedding which took place at the traditional annex wing of the swanky Shilla Hotel in Seoul on Oct 31. Korean news outlets flew drones over the outdoor ceremony and booked rooms at the hotel where the wedding was held so they could snap photos paparazzi-style. This leave-no-stone-unturned stance to capture the event despite their media ban on their big day has incurred the ire of netizens who railed against the invasion of the Songs' privacy. (Hmm, pray tell, are they the same netizens searching for Song-Song couple’s wedding pics online?)
Meanwhile, hundreds of fans and reporters thronged the heavily-guarded area outside the annex. Some fans were coincidentally in Korea while others had flown over especially for the wedding. Now that the wedding is over, and the celeb couple will be jetting to Europe for their honeymoon, here’s hoping that it won’t be long before we hear news about any, um, descendants of the Songs.
The ceremony was hosted by Joong Ki’s longtime friend. Another of his close friends, Park Bo Gum, gave a piano performance while musical actress Ock Joo Hyun, Hye Kyo’s close pal, sang ‘A Whole New World’. The couple’s close buds, actors Lee Kwang Soo and Yoo Ah In read out letters to them. Kwang Soo, who’s known Joong Ki for eight years, reportedly said to the bride: Hye Kyo, I'll leave my friend, Song Joong Ki, in your hands.

Pre-ceremony, Ziyi shared this pic of the couple’s wedding invitation on Weibo. The couple reportedly hand-delivered invitations to friends prior to their big day. While Ziyi received a special handwritten invite from Hye Kyo, the standard invite included a line that read: “We have finally found the right person after waiting for a long time.” Cue the ‘You Are My Everything’ soundtrack.
The couple’s marital home is rumoured to be this two-storey house located in the affluent Itaewon district in Seoul. This will make the Songs neighbours with Rain and Kim Tae Hee. Joong Ki reportedly bought the residence for 10 billion won (S$12 mil) in January while he was dating Hye Kyo.

SEOUL - The lovebirds from Descendants Of The Sun began a new episode in their lives on Tuesday (Oct 31) afternoon, as Mr and Mrs Song Joong Ki.
South Korean actor Song, 32, and actress Song Hye Kyo, weeks shy of her 36th birthday, wed in a private outdoor ceremony in Yeong Bin Gwan, a Korean-style banquet annexe to The Shilla hotel in Seoul, said The Korea Herald.
Although the couple did not give a customary nuptial press conference, the area around the wedding venue was overflowing with fans and reporters, added the report.

Song Joong Ki Calls Quits On Marriage To Song Hye Kyo
Talk-show chatter has it that the couple might have first met through actor Zo In Sung, a mutual acquaintance. Song Joong Ki has been good friends with Zo after they acted in the 2008 film A Frozen Flower. Song Hye Kyo starred with Zo in the 2013 drama That Winter, The Wind Blows.
In addition, Zo is said to have been one of the top candidates for the leading role of Descendants, special forces captain and lover Yoo Shi Jin, but he passed and Song Joong Ki eventually won the part.
The show was shot in South Korea and Greece in 2015. In March 2016, weeks after the romantic drama premiered, rumours started going round that the Songs were dating in real life.
